A 37-year-old man found himself sprayed with pepper spray after fighting with Houma Police while intoxicated.

Police were initially called to the scene after a call was made about a disturbance. Once they arrived they found the 37-year-old outside in a tuxedo where he was drinking a daiquiri. According to police there was blood dripping from his chin.

After telling police to go away he was seen breathing in a heavy manner while pacing the sidewalk. When police said they wanted to talk to him he then told them to talk to his lawyer who was with him at the time.

However, it wasn’t long before a struggle ensued which saw officers forcing the man to the ground where they attempted to shackle his legs. After headbutting and kicking officers, police employed pepper spray on their suspect in order to subdue him. He then stopped resisting arrest and was subsequently taken into custody.

Nowadays, it isn’t uncommon to see police with a wide array of personal protective equipment that they can call upon when they require quick assistance. Many of the items that officers also carry are self defense devices which offer a non-lethal alternative to the more traditional weapons on hand.

This means that instead of employing a firearm in a situation that doesn’t require brute force they can instead employ pepper spray which is just as effective at subduing a suspect, that is much more safe to use.

When an officer is called to a situation and they are required to apprehend a suspect to take into custody they want to make sure that that suspect doesn’t come to any harm in the process. The whole point of police work is to bring people in and not to harm them.

And with the assistance from pepper spray they can do just that while knowing that they are still doing their job by effectively removing someone who may be a potential threat to others.

After all without these self defense devices police would still primarily be relying on traditional firearms. Thankfully that is no longer the case and instead only require a traditional firearm as a last resort weapon choice; however, with the effectiveness of non-lethal devices that is very rarely the case.

Police in Dayton was able to prevent a woman from killing herself with an 8-inch knife after they employed nine non-lethal beanbags and a TASER device at her.

The incident took place in the morning when a 911 call came in from someone reporting that a woman who was armed with a knife intended to kill herself. When police arrived on scene they spotted the woman through the apartment window in the kitchen hiding behind a counter holding the knife.

When police gave orders for her to drop the knife she approached the screen door and made stabbing motions over her head at police.

Police then attempted to employ its PA system in a bid to talk to the woman. The woman came out on a number of occasions with the knife in her hand making stabbing motions towards the officers. Every time she came outside, an officer would fire several beanbag rounds at her. However, these simply bounced off the woman.

During the last occasion she came out, the beanbag rounds forced her to turn her back on the police. This was when one of the officers employed his TASER device which quickly subdued the woman putting a stop to any further incident and possible harm to those involved.

Police then disarmed her and took her to hospital when she was given a mental evaluation.

Nowadays, TASER weapons have become the perfect tool to utilize when it comes to preventing a suicide from happening. Quick and effective, one fire from these devices can instantly put a stop to someone who is intending to harm themselves or those around them.

Without the assistance from this device police would have to rely on words to persuade the individual to stop what they are doing. They would also have the more traditional option of employing a firearm which would only harm the person involved which is not what they want.

Thankfully though, the police in this situation were able to employ a self defense device when the woman involved had turned her back on them. This then allowed police to gain control of the situation in a way that prevented any harm from coming to the woman either through the knife or another weapon.

Christmas party goers have been urged to get safely home as they celebrate the festive season in Belfast over the next few weeks. The yearly campaign, which is led by Belfast City Council, was launched yesterday.

While the lord mayor wants everyone to enjoy their time in Belfast over the holiday season as they take pleasure in what the city has to offer, it’s also a time for people within the city to take responsibility for their personal safety.

The idea of spoiling festive goers fun is not the intention, but during the Christmas period there is an increase in the number of people out in the city which can also lead to a rise in crime levels as well.

As a result, precautions need to be taken to ensure everyone out gets home safe and sound. Just by planning how you will get home in advance, in addition to sticking with friends throughout the evening as well as responsible drinking will ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and safe night out.

The “Get Home Safely” campaign is based on other models within major cities where certain areas have taxi marshals, CCTV, safety lighting, a taxi rank, plus emergency contact points that are aimed at aiding night time safety.

Of course, another way of maintaining your protecting during the festive season is by bringing pepper spray with you while out and about. Easy to carry and extremely quick to employ, it can go where you go, thus greatly increasing your safety if you should find yourself confronted by a threat.

For those searching for a self defense device that offers maximum safety at the press of a button and a device that is non-lethal, then pepper spray is the best form of defense available. These days there are countless individuals purchasing the spray canister as it can easily be placed in a bag, purse, or coat pocket and can quickly be retrieved when it is needed.

This festive season make sure you are protected wherever you go making sure that you have a way to get home during the evenings you head out for a night of fun. Don’t end the night badly; start as you mean to end in the right way.

It is very easy to forget about self defense when we go about our daily lives. But some people are forced to look self defense in the face. Thankfully, many people are prepared to defend themselves with dog pepper spray. If it wasn’t for dog pepper spray, they would be in a very terrible place. Sometimes the only thing that keeps people from being terribly harmed is luck.

There was a real estate agent who desperately wished for dog pepper spray so that she could defend herself. She was extraordinarily spared from extreme harm thanks to chance. If she had had dog pepper spray though, she would have been prepared instead of just safe by chance.

A real estate lady had planned an open house for a house that had become her responsibility to sell. While the day that she chose to have an open house was relatively mild weather wise, things escaladed to a point that was completely undesirable.

When she showed up to the property, the neighbor’s pit bull started to charge her. She screamed at it to stop, which it did temporarily. However, not long after stopping, the pit bull resumed the attack on the real estate agent.

The agent screamed in defense. Thankfully the owner of the pit bull called the dog in.

You may be wondering, “Where is the dog pepper spray punch line?” The punch line is that the real estate agent didn’t have dog pepper spray. If she would have, then she wouldn’t have had to fear as much.

The agent has vowed to get some dog pepper spray in order to defend herself from now on. Please, let her lesson be a lesson to you as well. Get some dog pepper spray to defend yourself against unruly animals.

Dog pepper spray is a very useful self defense weapon. It is especially useful against dogs that lose control and start to attack. Just such a thing happened in Canada, but the dog pepper spray that was used wasn’t used soon enough.

A child has playing outside if the town of Brighton on February 27. It was nearly 4 pm and it was a lovely day. As the child was playing a neighbor’s dog lost its temper and attacked the child. The child suffered a pretty bad bite, but thankfully it didn’t lose its life.

The police were called and when a police officer showed up, the dog was still aggravated. The dog charged at the officer and tried to attack him, but the officer pulled out his dog pepper spray and sprayed the dog in the face. Needless to say, this stopped the charging dog and left it in a lot of pain.

Soon after the dog was sprayed, the owner retrieved it and took it inside.

An investigation is still being done. There has been no news about whether the dog will be put to sleep or not yet.

This story is a prime example of why dog pepper spray is a great self defense weapon. If the family of the child had had some dog pepper spray, the child may not have been bitten. And if the police officer had not had his dog pepper spray, then he may have been harmed by the dog. Or worse, the officer may have had to pull his firearm and shoot the dog in order to defend himself.

I know that I’m going to get some dog pepper spray because I want to make sure that my family is safe.

In the hands of a trained police officer a stun baton is a valuable tool for quelling uprisings and subduing unruly citizens. Few training programs cover what to do in case of marauding canines.

One deputy recently found out how handy a stun baton could be when he responded to a call from neighbors about dangerous dogs who were in the habit of attacking pets and a couple of small children.

Upon arriving at the home he entered the property through a front yard gate and approaching the front door after climbing a couple of steps. After knocking on the door he stood quietly, waiting.

A sound to his left alerted him that a critter was headed his way. Just as one of the vicious-looking, large dogs rounded the corner heading for him, he heard another dog approaching from his right. In the split second he had to devote to clear thought before it was too late, he grabbed his stun baton and flicked the safety off just as dog Number One, an eighty-five pounder, chomped into his upper thigh.

He knew that if the second dog got a grip on him that he wouldn’t be able to stay on his feet and they would probably get the best of him. He used the stun baton on the nose of the dog whose teeth were buried in his leg and immediately turned to deal with Number Two, and not a moment too soon. Number Two was already in the air, jaws agape, aimed for the deputy’s arm. As quickly as possible he turned the stun baton to meet Number Two’s vulnerable muzzle and caught him mid-air.

Upon being stunned both dogs yelped. Number One released his grip on the officer’s thigh, which was bleeding heavily. Number Two hit the ground and made an about face, yelping as he ran away.

At that precise moment the front door opened and the homeowner started berating the officer for “animal abuse.”

The officer is reported to have said, “Lady, it was me or the dogs. You’re lucky I didn’t reach for the gun with bullets.”

The dogs were separated as quickly as possible, but not without my dog incurring injury.

Afterwards as I spoke with the attacking dog’s owner, we disagreed about the course of action that should have been taken. I did whatever I could to ensure my dog would sustain the least amount of injury, as well as keeping myself a safe distance from teeth and claws. While I didn’t wish injury on the other dog, I did plan on reporting it to animal control. The other owner said she wouldn’t have reported my dog if the tables were turned, but she would have kicked her in the face instead to protect herself.

There is a lot of controversy over the humaneness of using Tasers as defense weapons against vicious animal attacks, specifically dogs. How is a Taser, which generally inflicts no lasting damage, any less humane than this woman’s natural response, which was to purposely inflict bodily harm, most likely disfiguring at that, on my animal? Surely the animal rights activists can see how the argument that Tasers are inhumane is flawed when compared to other alternatives.

The gnashing of teeth, the growling, the raised hackles on a couple of powerful animals is a terrifying sight to behold. Suggested distractions include a water hose spraying full-force, buckets of cold water and even a grab at strategic body parts; sometimes, these methods do work and the dogs can be controlled. But what about situations that may require stronger force?

Animal rights activists claim that TASERs, while not putting the dog in lethal danger, is a form of torture and is therefore inhumane. TASERs do not cause death, but they can cause injury to a human circulatory system that might be weakened by heart disease or some other medical condition; the shock of a TASER can aggravate a precarious situation though it may not lead directly to death. Imagine the power a TASER shock can have on a dog, which is sometimes half the size and weight of an average male.

The taser’s effect on a dog may not mean much to some people. Individuals who do not know dogs or who have had bad experiences with dogs may be extremely frightened by situations that would not worry a dog owner. The body language of dogs can certainly be confusing but most dog advocates would claim that such misunderstandings do not warrant the infliction of pain. Unfortunately, TASERs are easy to use and non-lethal; some activists worry that the combination of characteristics can give very sensitive trigger fingers an unfortunate opportunity to hurt dogs undeserving of such negative attention.

Dog advocates point out that alternatives to TASERs do exist for joggers, workers, and other individuals who want to feel safe if approached by an aggressive dog. Devices that emit high-frequency sounds effectively drive dogs away without causing any pain to the animal, but what if the sound triggers an angry response in an animal? It’s possible that this attempt to discourage a dog can inadvertently make the situation worse, especially if the dog is rabid or notoriously unpredictable. Understandably, fear can motivate individuals to purchase TASERs; an aggressive dog needs to be held at bay and if pain is necessary to do so, so be it. Nothing can offer peace of mind and comfort like a sure thing.

Victims of dog attacks, and other unfortunate witnesses to the damage dogs can do when angered beyond control, support the use of TASERs, using their non-lethal capabilities as an explanation why they are in fact very humane; TASERs are much more likely to stun an animal without causing permanent damage than shooting the dogs or physically hurting the dogs when trouble arises.

Articles aplenty describe situations where dogs are victimized by tasers. Documentation of successful rescues of potential victims of aggressive dogs attests to the value of a TASER. The question of whether or not TASERs are humane is murky; dog lovers who tear up at the sight of an animal in pain may misunderstand the role of a TASER while a victim of a dog attack may be grateful that a TASER was present to prevent severe injury to both dog and human. Cruelty to animals is a long-standing problem in American culture, but at what point do the interests of dogs take over for the concerns of people?
