As the spouse of a law enforcement officer I carry pepper spray. I have been to handgun safety courses as well as many other classes designed for self defense issues. I have worked with my husband as he learned about ground fighting and how to take care of himself. My husband recommends I do something nice and simple to keep myself and our children safe: carry pepper spray.

Law enforcement officers never know what a day on the job might entail. Deputies were working at a domestic disturbance when a 51 year old man, Audrey Don Chavis, came up to them. Apparently, Chavis used his hands to simulate the action of putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger. The incident was odd from the beginning.

A woman was on her way to get some shopping done when she noticed a crowd surrounding an officer and suspect as they fought. The police office was under attack.
“It was just crazy. I just told my mom pull over…let’s try to help,” Tanisha Cross told a local media station. “There were a lot of people standing there just watching, and there were a lot of guys, and I'm like these guys aren't going to help. I figured someone should be the bigger person and try to help the officer.”
