Police Chief John Grote of the Yellow Springs Police Department had long been opposed to the use of stun guns by the officers under his authority. Following an incident between a mentally unstable man and a lone officer during which both were injured, Grote is taking another look at his position.

Up to this time, if there was a domestic problem, officers were pretty much limited to firearms and batons. No stun gun in sight. Now, however, senior general duty officers in all eighty of New South Wales’ Local Area Commands are equipped with Taser X-26 non lethal weapons. Good thing, since they received a triple zero call (000) for help during the early hours of the following day.

There was no way Lt. Michael Piggot could have foreseen what transpired moments after giving the order for officers to fire a Taser at a mentally disturbed man. When the man felt the effects of the stun gun, he pitched forward over the balcony railing and fell to his death.

Following the death of Robert Dziekanski, a Polish citizen, who was subdued with a Taser, British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell supported the four police officers involved in the skirmish. Recently released Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) emails show that Commissioner William Elliott, called the officers to express his support immediately after a private video of the incident was made public in November of 2007.

St. Louis County police officers confronted a combative man last Tuesday. DeBoise, a schizophrenic who was off his medication, emerged from the house on Lake Paddock Drive, naked and in a highly agitated state. In an effort to subdue him, officers used a TASER.

Although pepper spray is generally considered quite safe, experts say deaths can sometimes occur due to other health considerations.
In situations combining pre-existing respiratory problems, such as asthma and emphysema, and exposure to pepper spray, the results can be lethal. While it is rare for someone to die as a result of pepper spray alone, it has happened.

Law enforcement officers in both Devon and Cornwall are cracking down on anyone carrying a knife in their districts.

It only took about two minutes to stop the fight after the pepper spray was unleashed by a school security guard.
About a dozen students started throwing punches in the cafeteria of Sarah T. Reed High School in the New Orleans Recovery School District. All told, about thirty students were involved. The brawl, an outgrowth of gang-related hostilities a day or so before, started during lunch when around 500 students were in the area.
