A 38-year-old male suspect and a 22-year-old male suspect were arrested when police responded to an activated burglar alarm around 6 p.m. on Hanover Street. Upon arrival police saw that a glass patio door had been smashed and that a collection of jewelry had been stolen.

During the investigation, police also noticed that a rear door to a second home had also been smashed and a bedroom had been ransacked. Upon their findings, police then did a stakeout of one of the suspects as he had been a suspect in recent burglaries that had occurred in town.

During the stakeout, a car drove up to the house, which had the second suspect inside. Both men were seen to drive off, which saw police following them where they were discovered to discard items in a trash bin outside an apartment complex.

These items were those that had been stolen from the burglaries on Hanover Street.

In this day and age with the number of home burglaries being reported it’s important that homeowners think about the ways in which they can avoid their home becoming the target of thieves.

While a good security alarm is the first measure to think about, which will act as a major deterrent to any would-be thieves, it’s a good idea to think about measures inside the house that will stop thieves in their tracks.

The 30-year-old male of Columbus was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and trespassing at the abandoned home after it was alleged that he refused to comply with police orders.

Police were also able to arrest a second 31-year-old man who was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court. Columbus police were searching for the man at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday when community members explained to them that they believed that illegal drug activity was taking place at the abandoned house.

The officers went and checked the house where they found one man inside. When they ordered him to show his hands he refused. As a result, the police self defense stun gun was used on him. After the arrest of the first man they then went into the house in question where they tried to arrest the second man.

He, however, refused to comply and attempted to bite one of the officers before they were able to restrain him.

Police praised the efforts of the community for alerting them to the abandoned house.

In this day and age it’s not uncommon for police to have access to a wide range of self defense devices. This means that regardless of the situation they can protect themselves when they need it the most.

Officers were quick to respond to the scene and managed to break up the fight between the neighbors. However, while one of the neighbors walked off after orders from one of the officer’s, the second neighbor decided to charge towards the officer.

As a result, the officer fired his self defense device where the intoxicated neighbor was take away into police custody.

While the device wasn’t required in order to break the fight up, it did proof extremely useful when the officer found himself the target of a charging drunk suspect intent of inflicting harm on others. However, his attempts were quickly thwarted with the assistance from the stun gun and its ability to produce quick results when employed.

After responding to a report they arrived at the teenager’s home where they found an out of control 16-year-old male who was intoxicated. According to officers, when they arrived, it was clear to them that the juvenile was verbally and clearly drunk.

The teenager’s mother explained to officers that he had attacked her during an argument which saw him grabbing her throat and biting her arm. However, when officers tried to arrest the young man, he attempted to flee his home, which ultimately forced one officer to tackle the teenager with the help of another officer.

As a result, the teenager started punching and kicking the two officers, which is when one officer employed his pepper spray into the teenager’s face. Paramedics were called them to meet them and their arrested suspect at the Dedham Police Station in order to treat the young man for his experience with the spray canister and intoxication.

Due to his actions the teenager was charged with domestic assault and battery, in addition to assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

These are of course serious charges to be dealt with; however it is with the assistance of the pepper spray that officers were able to control the unruly teenager without further harm being incurred as a result of his actions.

Nowadays, it is a common sight to see officers carrying a form of non-lethal protection on them while on duty. We have come a long way since the time when police batons were seen as the main source of an officer’s defense next to firearms. But while a police baton and firearm have the potential to cause deadly results to those targeted, the spray canister does not.

This means that when an officer apprehends a suspect they can now bring them in without needing to worry about injuries inflicted through the device they employ. Furthermore, these self defense tools are also greatly utilized by the general public as a way to increase their protection.

No one should be a victim of crime, and it’s important for a person to be able to walk down the street without worrying about an attack occurring. With pepper spray, they don’t need to fret about that.

Explaining the situation to the students’ guardians and parents, the principal sent out an e-blast, stating that the high school prided itself on being a safe learning environment for its students. And because of the awareness of cyber bullying, and the inappropriate employment of the Internet and cell phones, the school would be dedicating Violence Awareness Week to a series of parent workshops which highlights the dangers and risks involved with cyber bullying and what can be done to prevent it.

Complying with the New Jersey Department of Education guidelines, Boonton High School will focus this year’s program on teen fighting, bullying behavior, Internet safety, cyber bullying and dating violence.

Two assemblies on drug prevention and cyber bullying will be undertaken by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, while an officer from the Boonton Police Department will attend the school in order to discuss the issue of safety to the students.

Last year, the school held a simulated car crash assembly to its students, which proved to be a huge success. Because of this, the high school is hoping that the awareness of cyber bullying and the other issues focused on will also prove to be a success with the students and parents.

Booton High School’s aim is to continually create programs that aid at developing an awareness to the possible dangers that high school students face. With a positive and safe learning school environment, it is hoped that the students will be encouraged to make the right choices that create positive peer relations.

Of course, one way for students to maintain their safety is by owning pepper spray; however, this only applies to those aged 18 and over. But it is a device worth considering. Quick and effective to employ it will certainly do the job at preventing an assailant from attacking you during a date, or journey home from school.

Britain’s Home Secretary explained at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham that Labour’s antisocial behavior orders would be replaced by measures that would provide support to the victims of vandalism and intimidation who feel they have been let down by the previous system.

The Home Secretary explained that in many cases they hear stories from victims being past from the police to environmental services to housing departments before they come full circle and are past back to the police.

Furthermore, if they do call police for assistance they may find that they aren’t taken seriously, and in some instances will have their cases dismissed completely.

Now, however, communities and victims will be presented with the power to force law enforcement to tackle the problems of antisocial behavior; in addition to giving them the right to take necessary action if they believe nothing is being done.

The innovative plans are designed to make police more accountable. Beginning in the new year, officers will be required to publish detailed, street level crime data providing communities with important information so that they can understand what is going on in the areas they reside in.

Additionally, officers will undertake frequent beat meetings with residents, and from May 2012, chief constables will  answer     directly to crime commissioners and police, in order to make sure that the public are kept safe in the communities they live in as police tackle crime.

Of course, even though these plans are aimed at bettering communities and support, being able to defend yourself at a moment’s notice is also important. One way of increasing your safety is by owning pepper spray.
