Yellowstone’s bear manager and park officials are looking into the deaths of two hikers after grizzly bears killed them year this. Previous to these attacks, there had only been one bear-caused injury reported each year since studies began in the 1980s.
Yellowstone’s bear manager said that there is greater activity in Yellowstone with over three million people flocking to visit. It is estimated that over 30 years ago the bear population was around 200, but today, biologists put that figure to over 600.
At the heart of the Yellowstone program is to make sure that tabs are kept on bears and camps and developments are sanitized so that bears can’t gain access to human food. A study has found that backpackers understand this and many of them carry bear spray when hiking into the backcountry.
However, only 16 percent of casual hikers, such as the two killed, actually carry the self defense spray on them for protection. When it comes to a person’s safety it is important that measures are taken so that if they should find themselves confronted by a grizzly bear then they can effectively defend themselves at a moment’s notice.

After two home burglaries were reported in the same neighborhood last week, police have issued a safety warning to residents’ to lock their windows and doors when they are leaving their homes.
The first break-in was reported to the Newport Beach Police Department on November 10 at 3.36 p.m. According to reports, an unknown individual broke a window at the rear of the house, prying the sliding glass door open. Once inside the thief stole money and jewelry worth $3,800.
The second burglary took place in the same neighborhood and was reported on Saturday at 4.24 p.m. Once again, an unknown thief broke into a home and stole a laptop computer worth $2,400.
In a different location of the city, a home burglary was reported on November 10 at 9 p.m. Jewelry worth $23,820 was stolen.
As a result of these incidents, police are urging residents’ to maintain their safety by always locking their windows and doors when they leave their homes. To prevent thieves from entering through a window or sliding door, police are recommending that a metal or wooden stick is placed in the track or a security pin or large nail is placed through the frame. Windows should also receive a second level of protection.
Another measure to consider is the installation of a good security alarm system. This is an ideal deterrent that will effectively deter would-be thieves from targeting your home as they will see that measures have been put into place to catch burglars in action.

Two dogs have been removed from a Wichita Falls home by city Animal Control officials after they were alleged to have been involved in an attack on three people.
According to Wichita Falls police, three people were injured when the dogs managed to get loose from their home. As a result of the injuries inflicted two people were taken to United Regional Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police were initially called to the neighborhood around 4 p.m. when they received reports of a dog attack. According to reports, the female caller said that two of her family members had been attacked by the dogs.
In this situation the use of dog pepper spray would prove beneficial when it comes to preventing an aggressive dog from attacking a person. The Occupy Portland protest took a turn last Thursday when police and protesters clashed in downtown Portland. As a result, police employed pepper spray on the protesters to disperse the crowd.
According to a Portland Police Bureau spokesman, it is reported that at least 48 protesters were arrested during the course of the day.
Fourteen of those arrested were located at or near the Chase Bank near Pioneer Courthouse Square. This is where the day’s dramatic confrontations between protesters and police took place.
The protesters initially gathered at the bank around 3.30 p.m. where it appeared that they had entered the lobby or the main entrance. One protester is alleged to have climbed up into the entrance window.
In response, the Portland Police Bureau’s mounted patrol and rapid response units moved in where police ordered the protesters to clear the streets.
A confrontation between the two sides then erupted as police moved in. As a result, officers then employed their self defense spray on protesters.

While there has been a decline of 5.1 percent in non-domestic burglaries in east Belfast from April 2011 to September 2011, compared to last year, the number of domestic burglaries has risen.
During the same period, there was an extra 51 incidents reported compared to 2010. The rise in the amount of crime levels is down to lead and copper thefts.
While many are shocked by these figures, police are doing everything they can to combat crime levels. However, there are many who are blaming the recession on the crime levels with many who would not normally be involved in crime who are turning their attention to it to get by.
Police are urging residents to report anything suspicious to police so that measures can be taken to prevent this type of crime from continuing. In order for homeowners to avoid their properties from becoming targets of thieves they should make sure that they lock their windows and doors.

A string of home burglaries has residents located along the Main Line nervous as police continue their search for suspects in connection with the break-ins.
Over the past four days there have been at least six burglaries and one attempted burglary reported to police. According to police items stolen include money, laptops and jewelry.
The suspects are gaining entry to residents’ property through open windows, doors and in some instances through the use of forceful entry. Police believe that suspects are targeting neighborhoods by telling residents a fake story that they are looking for yard work.
In order for homeowners to maintain their safety and to keep hold of what is rightfully theirs they should think about the safety measures they have in place. One way of boosting their safety is through the use of a good security alarm which can easily be installed by a reputed security company.

Forest Lake police employed a stun gun on a 22-year-old man over the weekend after he is alleged to have robbed six people at gunpoint.
The man in question was arrested and taken into police custody on suspicion of terrorist threats, assault, aggravated robbery, theft, fleeing police and disorderly conduct.
According to police reports, the suspect had stolen a replica Airsoft handgun from Walmart which was then used to rob two groups of people in the store’s parking lot.
He first approached a group of females who were walking toward the store entrance. Pointing the gun at them he demanded that they hand over their money. Running into the store the girls reported the incident.
He is then reported to have approached a second group, a female and two males, who were sitting in a car waiting for their friend who was working. The suspect ordered the female out of the car, but when she argued with him he hit her over the head with the gun. In the end, all three of them ran into the store and called police.
When police arrived, the male then ran toward McDonald’s. Police gave chase and watched as he struggled through a drainage ditch and climb up a culvert. He was ordered to stop several times by police, which he refused to do so. As a result a police stun gun was employed on him.
Thanks to the employment of the police self defense device they were able to prevent the man from targeting others for money.

A Redding man has been arrested after he was targeted by a police stun gun on Monday night. The man in question is alleged to have thrown what appears to be a large beer can at Redding police officers.
Police were initially called to a residence at around 9 p.m. after they received a report that a man inside the home was refusing to leave. When police arrived on the scene they found a 32-year-old locked outside his house by his friend.
According to reports, the man explained to police that he tried to get back into the house by climbing through a window, but his friend knocked him backward to the ground. Police reports state that both men appeared to be drunk.
While police were talking to the man outside the home, they also watched the man inside the house through the window. At some point, the man inside threw what appeared to be a large beer can at police, shattering the window in the process and injuring an officer.
An officer then employed his stun gun at the man inside the house who instantly fell to the ground. When officers entered the house, the man confronted them, but he was quickly apprehend by the police self defense device and taken away into police custody.
The use of the police device enabled police to gain control of a situation which could have resulted in further harm coming to those on the scene.

Police were called to a Geyland lodging house after a 34-year-old, believed to be Russian, had overstayed in a room.
The man is alleged to have checked in with a woman at 8 a.m. and paid $8 to stay for 30 minutes. However, police were called around 9.30 a.m. after the man insisted on staying regardless of the fact that staff had informed him that his time was up.
When police arrived on the scene, the man became aggressive and charged at one of them. A police spokesperson said that that the man intended to cause harm and continued to use violence as he tried to hit the officer.
As a result of his actions a police stun gun was then employed on the man to prevent him from further harming himself, the officer and the public.
