How do you hide a safe in a wall?

September 22, 2022

There are multiple things that make a well-hidden safe “hidden.” For example, when trying to find a place to hide your safe, you have to take into consideration how accessible it is to you or anyone else, how hidden it is by the naked eye, how thick the wall is where you’d like to install it, and how hard it will be to find by thieves. One of the biggest things though is HOW you’re going to hide the safe. There are tons of ways to keep your safe hidden from greedy eyes. In this article, we’ll go over some of the most effective ways to hide your safe from unknown hands.

Can I put any kind of safe into my wall?

This question has a definitive answer, which is NO, definitely NOT. Most other kinds of safes are way too big and bulky to be put into your wall, and wouldn’t be able to be put in without it sticking out the other side. Even if they’re small, almost all safes are just too HEAVY! The walls of most safes are made to be thick and tough, and therefore very heavy.

Thankfully though, you can buy safes that are meant to be installed into your wall, called wall safes! The best part is that they’re fairly inexpensive compared to a normal safe because they’re so lightweight and small. Wall safes are the kind of safe we’re going to be referring to for the rest of this article.

Can I install the wall safe I bought myself?

This question sadly has a pretty straightforward answer, which is a profound no. Sadly, you cannot install your wall safe into one of your walls without SOME kind of help from a professional. Not safely, at least. You can look up as many youtube videos as you’d like, but you’ll either be missing some of the tools to install it into your desired place, or be too inexperienced to be able to install it without messing up your wall in some way, like destroying wires inside the wall or doing unfixable damage.

Thankfully, there are so many ways to find someone who can install your wall safe for you and do it to the best of their ability and as safe as possible! You can find people that can do it online or around your local area. It will cost some money for them to do the job, but for how good of a job they can do because of their experience level and tools, it’ll be worth your buck.

What are some places I can hide my wall safe?

Now let’s go over HOW you can hide it. Here are some ways you can hide your safe from hungry eyes trying to steal your valuable items. These places are just some suggestions, there are TONS of other places you could put and install a wall safe, but we felt these are some of the better and maybe even BEST places to hide your wall safe.

Behind furniture

One way to hide a safe is by placing it behind furniture. This can be done by either removing the back panel of the piece of furniture or by building the safe into the furniture itself. If you choose to remove the back panel of the furniture, make sure that the hole left is not too large and can be easily covered with something like fabric or wallpaper. And make sure this is done by a professional so your furniture doesn’t get ruined!

In an unusual room (Ex. Children’s room, bathroom)

Another way to hide a safe is in an unusual room like a children’s room. This can be done by placing the safe behind a picture your spouse drew, a painting they made or hiding it behind a piece of furniture that is meant for a child’s room. Keep in mind though that hiding your valuables in your child’s room COULD put your kids at risk! So tread carefully.

Behind a false electrical outlet

A false outlet can also be used to hide a safe. This involves installing a fake outlet cover over the safe. The cover can be made of wood or metal and should be painted to match the surrounding outlets. This is very useful as no one would think to try your outlets, but because it is such a small safe, you can’t hide much besides very small valuables and items, so keep that in mind.

Behind a bookcase

Behind bookcases are another common place to hide safes. This can be done by either attaching the safe to the back of the bookcase or by building the safe into the bookcase itself. If you choose to attach the safe to the back of the bookcase, make sure that the bookcase is securely attached to the wall so that it does not tip over when the safe is opened.

Behind a picture or painting

Another option for hiding a safe is behind a picture or painting. This can be done by hanging the picture or painting in front of the safe. Make sure that the picture or painting is securely hung so that it does not fall and reveal the safe. This is one of the easiest options as it doesn’t require much work to do.

Behind a mirror

Behind mirrors is another popular place to hide safes. This can be done by either attaching the mirror to the safe or by building the safe into the frame of the mirror. If you choose to attach the mirror to the safe, make sure that it is securely attached and will not fall and break when the safe is opened.

In a secondary or guest bedroom

In a secondary bedroom is another option for hiding a safe. This can be done by installing the safe in the closet or somewhere out of the naked eye. Make sure that the safe is not visible from the door of the room so that it cannot be easily seen and stolen. Most thieves don’t check your rooms thoroughly, as they’re in a time crunch when robbing a residence.

Behind a remote control frame

Behind a remote control frame is another great way to hide a safe. This can be done by either attaching the frame to the safe or by building the safe into the frame itself. If you choose to attach the frame to the safe, make sure that it is securely attached and will not fall and break when the remote control is used. Remote control frames are fairly expensive though, and might take a little more work to install, so keep that in mind if this is an option for you.

Behind a fish tank

Another option for hiding a safe is behind a fish tank. This can be done by either attaching the fish tank to the safe or by building the safe into the stand of the fish tank. If you choose to attach the fish tank to the safe, make sure that it is securely attached and will not fall and break when the fish tank is filled with water.

Behind a washing machine or dryer machine

The last option for hiding a safe is behind a washing machine or dryer machine. This can be done by either attaching the machine to the safe or by building the safe into the machine itself. If you choose to attach the machine to the safe, make sure that it is securely attached and will not fall and break when the machine is used.
